Currently, there are 8 states that have laws that prohibit employers from penalizing employees who are victims of domestic violence/sexual assault for taking time off under certain circumstances (such as to attend trial, respond to subpoenas or give testimony). These laws vary significantly from state to state. Another 7 states have proposed legislation specifically for domestic violence/sexual assault victims.
