
Intimate partner homicide in the United States
- Between 1,000 1,600 women die at the hands of their male partners, annually
- Women are killed by intimate partners husbands, lovers, ex-husbands, or ex-lovers more often than by any other category of killer
- It is the leading cause of death for African-American women aged 15-45
- It is the 7th leading cause of death for women overall
- Intimate partner homicide make up 40-50% of all murders
- 70-80% of intimate partner homicides, no matter which partner was killed, the man physically abused the woman before the murder
