Research is the foundation of any expert service. We understand how critical research is to the development of workplace solutions for sexual harassment, workplace violence and domestic violence. To this end, DV Initiative has partnered with Dr. Emily Rothman of Boston University School of Public Health to promote employer participation in research studies and to provide intervention strategies.
Research Funding
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) are the main government funding sources.
Types of Research
There are generally two types of studies:
- Exploratory
The purpose of an exploratory study is to learn about the views, feelings, and thoughts of employees on a particular topic or issue. We may use surveys, focus groups or interviews to access this information. Participation is voluntary and employees may receive a small stipend for their time (for example, a $5 gift card)
- Intervention
The purpose of an intervention study is to measure the effectiveness of the intervention (for example, domestic violence training). There are three parts:
- A base line measurement (a pre-test that is given to all participating employees)
- Training (only half of the participating employees receive this training the other half is the control group)
- An outcome measurement (a post-test given to all participating employees)
In this way, the success of the training is verified scientifically with a control group by comparing persons who received the training with those who did not.
Your company too can be part of this research!
