An additional 4 states have proposed legislation. 30 states have laws that require employers to allow victims of crime to take time off from work under certain circumstances and another 20 states have laws that encourage employers to allow time off without adverse action. Sex discrimination laws and wrongful discharge can also create employer liability for discriminating against victims of domestic violence.
